Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and performer Chris Startup has been playing and writing music for the past 16 years.
His music stems from the roots of folk and blues re-created in a mix of chilled ambient folk and banging blues.
Chris has played with several collectives performing regularly on the English Festival circuit, and was an instrumentalist playing alto saxophone, electric guitar and percussion for the band
(a member since 2003).
His credits include the Glastonbury and Knockengorroch Festivals, The Big Green Gathering, Sunrise Festival, Solfest, Alchemy Festival, Endorsit Festival, Spratton Folk Festival, Bearded Theory Festival, Strawberry Fair, Small World Festival, Hawkfest, Nuts In May, Alchemy Festival and the Umbrella Fair.
Between 2006 - 2008 Chris toured Europe playing on the Americana Circuit throughout France, Switzerland, Norway and Lithuania as a session musician for Rachael Warwick and playing great venues such as the Cognac Blues Festival, Country Rendez-Vous festival in France, Disneyland Paris and Cardiff Arena.
Chris has written, recorded and produced both King’s Gambit’s albums - Lines and Verses in 2011, FolkBeat written and produced in 2013 and From One To Another in 2016. Both mastered by Mike Stevens.
